Post Procedure Care

Immediately after the vein procedure:

After the procedure, you may feel slight discomfort. Follow your doctor’s pain relief advice. Keep the ace wrap in place for 24 hours.

Days after your vein procedure:

  • Avoid pools, hot tubs, or baths for 7-10 days.
  • Showering is fine, but wait 24 hours before removing the ace wrap.
  • No heavy lifting or intense exercise for 7-10 days.
  • Stick to light activities like walking.

Weeks after your vein procedure:

You may notice some temporary changes. Loss of sensation and a tight feeling along the vein are normal. These will gradually improve.

One Month After Your Vein Procedure

At this point, you should notice significant improvements in your vein health. Any discomfort or swelling should have subsided, and you may experience increased mobility and comfort in your legs. It’s important to continue following any prescribed post-operative care instructions to support optimal healing.

Six Months After Your Vein Procedure

By the six-month mark, you should have experienced considerable progress in your vein health. The treated veins may have faded, and any related symptoms should have significantly improved. However, it’s essential to continue monitoring your progress and attending follow-up appointments.

One Year After Vein Treatment

At the one-year mark, you should enjoy a vastly improved quality of life, with any previous symptoms greatly alleviated. While the treated veins may continue to fade, it’s important to maintain regular check-ups to ensure sustained vein health and address any new concerns promptly.

Post-Procedure Instructions

After undergoing laser and radiofrequency treatments, it’s crucial to follow specific steps for a smooth and successful recovery:

  • Stay Active: Avoid prolonged sitting or standing. If you’re in a seated position for an extended period, make sure to get up and move around every hour.
  • Limit Strenuous Activities: Refrain from engaging in strenuous activities and heavy lifting for at least two weeks following the procedure.
  • Utilize Compression Stockings: These stockings play a pivotal role in the closure procedure. Wear them for three days after the treatment. Remember, the more you wear them, the better you’ll feel. You can remove them at night.
  • Schedule a Follow-up Scan: Arrange for your follow-up Duplex (ultrasound) scan to occur 3-7 days after the procedure.
  • Maintain Medication Regimen: Discuss with your doctor whether or not to take baby aspirin.
  • Shower with Care: You may shower, but refrain from tub baths, swimming, or hot tubs for the first week.
  • Address Potential Bleeding: In rare cases, there may be bleeding through the bandages. If this occurs, lie down, elevate your leg, and apply direct pressure until the bleeding stops. If it persists, contact your CVR physician.
  • Expect Tenderness and Bruising: It’s normal to experience some tenderness and possibly some bruising along the areas where local anesthesia was administered.

post-procedure

For ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, follow these important post-procedure instructions:

  • Prioritize Compression Stockings: Wear your compression stockings day and night for three days following your vein treatment. This helps push out the medication used during the procedure and reduces staining. You may remove them temporarily for showering.
  • Continue Compression: After three days, continue to wear your compression stockings daily for two weeks, except for showering and sleeping. After two weeks, wear them at your discretion.
  • Avoid Hot Water: Steer clear of hot showers, tub baths, hot tubs, and swimming for one week. Pat your skin dry after showering.
  • Manage Discomfort: Aloe vera gel or cool packs can be used to ease any discomfort. Additionally, Tylenol or ibuprofen may help reduce any post-treatment irritation. However, avoid the use of aspirin.

In the case of ambulatory phlebectomy, you can expect an immediate recovery. Here are some additional instructions:

  • Stay Active: Walk after the surgery, as it’s encouraged. However, stick to low-impact, light activity due to site tenderness.
  • Manage Bandages: Keep the post-operative bandage in place for 24 hours after surgery before replacing it with daytime compression stockings for 1-2 weeks.
  • Monitor Incisions: The small slit-like incisions made during an ambulatory phlebectomy heal quickly and should be practically imperceptible after 6-12 months.

For visual sclerotherapy, remember to wear compression stockings to aid in keeping the vein closed. You can resume normal daily activities immediately after the treatment.
